What is this tiny thing used for?

It has been fantastic to work alongside GIBTK to do great things for the community. Today, I had the opportunity to travel to Son Tay, a remote mountainous district of Quang Ngai province. More than 90% of the people living in this region do not have access to clean water and are in great need of the water filters that we are able to provide. I find one of the most amazing parts of each distribution to be the preparation beforehand. The GIBTK team pitches in to help assemble the water filters so when we arrive at our distribution site, the filters are ready to be distributed and used. After just a few hours of work by the GIBTK team, the filters are ready to help families in need.

I was overjoyed when I saw the recipients line up for user training before receiving their water filters. What made my day was when a little girl, about 3 feet tall, holding her mother's hand in one hand and pulling my trouser leg with the other, said, “What is this little thing used for?"

With the sparkling eyes of this girl staring at such a tiny object, I was so proud to bring assistance to a new generation. These water filters have transformed more than 20,000 lives globally and nearly 9,000 lives in Vietnam. This simple and small apparatus has provided families with clean water and ended their high risk of catching diseases from unsanitary water, and now this young girl’s family will have access to the same clean water!

The distribution went smoothly, everyone was overjoyed because they had never before had access to such a high quality water filter and were surprised by the power of such a small item. Today, not one, but approximately 600 people in Son Tay district, were given access to the safe drinking water that they have long deserved. There will be no more stomach aches or illnesses due to unsanitary water among these families.

I want to thank GIBTK for collaborating with their main water filter donor, One Atta Time. I am so grateful for the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that change people’s lives. Together we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those living in poverty.

With us, we can make a difference.
