From Darkness to Hope - My Journey at Carmela’s Home

My Journey at Carmela’s Home - GIBTK

Hi everyone, I’m Hoan Phu! A year and a half ago, I never thought my life could change. Before, my brother and I lived with our dad in Quang Nam province. But my dad drank heavily and often forced us to serve him. He had no job, and we barely had enough to live on. More than that, we lacked love, care, and any sense of security.

Phu – a young man who lacked his father's love because his father was an alcoholic

My mom worked as a maid in Da Nang, trying to support us from afar. In the end, she couldn’t take it anymore and made the hardest decision of her life - divorced him and took us to the city. But life in Da Nang wasn’t easy.

Phu is a well-behaved young man

My mom could only afford to raise one of us, and she had to make another heartbreaking decision: asking Giving It Back To Kids for help. That’s how I became a member of Carmela’s Home—a place that completely changed my life.

He is in the arms of a "father" – Robert

At first, I didn’t know if I would fit in. But I soon realized this was more than just a

home—it was a FAMILY. I have a home leader and housemothers who truly care for me, brothers who support me, and a safe space to grow. In just 1.5 years, I’ve improved my grades, learned new skills, and become more confident.

At GIBTK, he had access to everything he needed, especially a full education and love

Most importantly, I realized something I never thought about before—my dream. I want to become a responsible man, someone who protects and cares for my family, so that no one I love will ever have to feel the way I once did.

Not only did he study regular subjects, but he also participated in many other activities

I’m no longer the scared boy I used to be. I am growing, transforming, and becoming the person I was meant to be.

Thank you, Giving It Back To Kids for giving me a new chapter.

A place he calls "family."
