A Second Chance at Life- Tri's Story

A Second Chance at Life- Tri's Story

My name is Vuong Dinh Tri. I was born with a heart defect called a ventricular septal defect. For as long as I can remember, I was constantly sick. My parents are farmers who work tirelessly in the fields, trying to earn enough to raise me and my two siblings. Life was never easy for us. Our house was so broken down that it felt like it could collapse at any moment. But we had no money to repair it.

Me with my house were fragile and vulnerable

Because of my illness, my parents had to spend what little they had on my treatment. Then came the news that changed everything, doctors said I needed heart surgery. It was the only way to save my life. But the cost was far beyond anything my family could afford. My parents were heartbroken. They wanted to save me, but they didn’t know how.

I wished to be saved

That was when a miracle happened. In October 2007, Giving It Back Kids and a kind-hearted sponsor came into our lives. They supported my heart surgery, the surgery that gave me a second chance at life. I cannot describe the HOPE and relief that filled my hearts that day. That moment changed my future forever.

Nearly 18 years ago, I received sponsorship for heart surgery

After my recovery, I lived a healthy and happy life. Later on, I spent over five months studying Japanese and returned to my hometown to help my mother with household chores. My dream was to work abroad in Japan to earn money and support my family. I was in the process of waiting for a job order from the Japanese company, and during that time, I decided to become a delivery man to help ease my family’s financial burden.

Today, I have been completely transformed with good health and a strong heart

Every day, I carry more than just packages, I carry gratitude. If it weren’t for the surgery I received, none of this would be possible. On behalf of my family and from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the sponsors and Giving It Back to Kids. You didn’t just heal my heart, you gave me a life full of hope and strength.
