Learning to Love and Care - Ngoc’s Story of Motherhood
?
Ng?c stood silently in the corner of the small kitchen, her gaze absentmindedly fixed on the yard outside, filled with worry about her second pregnancy. She no longer felt the excitement she once had, only a heavy sense of anxiety weighing down on her heart.
Â
?Her first daughter, now almost three years old, had gone through a difficult childhood due to her mother’s mistaken caregiving practices, excessive caution, and even following superstitions to treat illnesses when the child was sick. As a result, Ng?c had been both exhausted and confused when her daughter frequently fell ill.
Ngoc – the girl with albinism, worried about her second pregnancy
Life wasn’t easy for Ng?c at 39 years old. She suffered from albinism, a result of the Agent Orange exposure her father had experienced. All financial burdens rested on her husband’s shoulders, who worked as a construction laborer far from home. The family lived with her in-laws, adding to the pressure she felt when she learned she was expecting another child.
Fortunately, she discovered GIBTK and received invaluable support and lessons
One day, Ng?c received a referral to the Dorothea's Project Legacy for Pregnant Moms funded by the Giving It Back To Kids organization. Initially, she hesitated. "What would I go there for? Would it really bring anything useful to me, or would it just be a waste of time?" she thought. But eventually, she decided to give it a try.
Here, mothers receive free pregnancy diagnoses and ultrasounds
The first meeting with the nurse surprised her. The nurse not only talked about things Ng?c had never heard before, like how to balance nutrition in meals and the importance of ultrasound screening for birth defects, but she also listened to and acknowledged Ng?c’s concerns.
Â
?The feeling of care and empathy moved Ng?c deeply. Every week, she eagerly attended the meetings, listening to the nurse’s guidance on how to care for a sick child and handle emergencies such as high fevers or suffocation.

As the pregnancy progressed, Ng?c no longer felt burdened or confused. The prenatal screening ultrasound gave her peace of mind, knowing that her baby was developing healthily.
Â
In June 2024, Ng?c gave birth to a lovely baby boy weighing 2.8 kg.
Looking at her baby sleeping peacefully in the small cradle, Ng?c smiled quietly. She no longer felt like an awkward mother. The days she had spent had changed her—not just in how she cared for her family, but also in how she viewed herself.
Â
? "Motherhood has never been easy, but now I know that with love and learning, I can do anything," she said with a proud smile.
