Thought we could all use a smile. seeing babies which have a chance for life! Today's note is on our home for unwed mothers, called The Father's House. I googled abortion rates in the world. Vietnam came up as #2! At least on this site. Honestly not sure if it is #2 in the world, but one thing I know is it has been at the top.
In Vietnam, culture is that if a girl becomes pregnant out of wedlock, it is great shame to the family as well as her! When we firs got permission to open the home. I remember the govt official saying "if a girl finds herself with this problem she must get rid of baby or move to new city." Imagine a girl pregnant, often poor, in a new town, what's the future? I did look at the official and ask but does it not take 2 to make a baby? what about the man? where is he in all this. The official changed subject.
We opened The Fathers House in 2007. Since then there has been 87 babies born in our home! I remember visiting one of the first moms at the hospital after she gave birth. Our govt partner, a woman was with us. I asked the govt official what would have happened to this baby if there was not Father's House. I'll never forget her looking someplace far away as her eyes sorta glazed over, saying "the baby would not have been!" As I type those words I have a flood of emotions and tears in my eyes. NEVER HAVE BEEN! oh my God...
Every child deserves a chance has been our motto since the beginning of GIBTK. at The Father's Home girls in crisis can come in, they can lie about their names, but need a safe place to have their child. We ask that they commit to stay 6 months after birth. It is in the time that we work with them to stay longer, finish education, often even graduating college! or learning a vocation that they can raise their child with some financial dignity!
Thanks for reading. Merry Christmas!!! May God Bless you in these crazy times.
If you'd like to connect with moms living there email me. Or maybe you would like to partner in The Father's House or one of our other programs. It can be done safely at www.gibtk.org
