Moments of Hope and Impact in Cambodia and Vietnam

Our visit to Cambodia and Vietnam has been heartwarming, informative and eye-opening. Visiting the boys and girls homes in Cambodia was such a delight. The children looked healthy, were well dressed, happy and very welcoming.
My introduction began with warm hugs from the home in Cambodia
They obviously loved the attention that we were able to give them. Hugs were given enthusiastically and any attention & /or small gifts were received with gratitude. We can see that they are well looked after by their house mums and the ‘Giving it back to Kids’ team not just physically but emotionally, spiritually & into the future.
The girls at GIBTK's Home led me to their space, hand in hand
There were many homes in Vietnam to visit - each group of children slightly different but such a joy to be greeted so warmly. Being a midwife and nurse, I was asked to share with Nyree a Doctor with the young mothers from the ’Father‘s House’ and some other ladies from the community at their weekly information evening. Interestingly the topics they chose was STI‘s and abortion - not quite what we were expecting but we shared all the same
It was a privilege for me to share knowledge with single mothers
We felt blessed to be able to give these young ladies some information to share with their circle of influence so they could all make informed decisions. Our talk seemed to be well received, especially the model of the 10-12 week old pre-born baby.
Seeing their joy made me incredibly happy
I feel privileged to be able to witness some of the other life saving & transforming projects GIBTKs has established are: We met 7 children desperately needing heart surgery heart but unable to afford it.
An emotional Heart Meeting filled with heartfelt moments
The worried expression on the faces of the parents & or grandparents as they described their situations was turned into sheer joy & relief when Robert said “Yes, we will cover all the costs for the life saving procedures & follow up!
Tears of joy flowed as these families learned they’d receive heart surgery funding.
Extra tuition to help children in the community - it was fun trying to teach them a little English & doing craft & games together. Swimming lessons for children in the community to prevent more drownings as many children die as unable to swim
The impact of GIBTK on children is something beyond amazing
We helped assemble & observed 60 water filters being given to underprivileged people who don’t have access to clean drinking water. These simple filters can last 8-10 years preventing many water born diseases. The joy on the faces of the children who were given their own bikes was palpable
Now, they will have clean water, and children can get to school more easily
These will mean they will save time getting to school & release their parents to work more. Not to mention the esteem these underprivileged children now have being more independent.
One of the mothers made me do a pinkie promise I would come back to see her & her daughter again, so who knows? I somehow gained at least another 3 grandchildren while I was here.
GIBTK is very pleased to help children in difficult circumstances as part of its mission. Become an important part of our work by contacting us at robert@givingitbacktokids.org or visiting our website: gibtk.org.
