Rising Above Adversity

Rising Above Adversity

The Story of Duc

Duc was born into a very low-income family of three in Thua Thien Hue city. His mother does a variety of jobs to make ends meet, while his father rides a motorcycle. However, occasionally, she is unable to work due to her hypertension, which gives her chest pain. With three kids to care for, things get increasingly harder for the family.

On Duc's first day stepping into GIBTK Homes

“To make enough money to survive, I used to work at a photocopy shop, but the wages were insufficient to pay for even my daily meals. To conserve money for school supplies, I frequently skipped meals,” said Duc.

He was nurtured and provided with complete education

Duc shares with us that he doesn't want to lead a hard life, thus he never gives up on learning in an effort to make his life less unhappy. The road to a university education, however, looked far away for Duc, who had no food to eat, leaky housing, and other problems. When Duc's father passed away, his family was so poor that they were unable to afford a coffin for his funeral.

?Nothing of value that could be sold was in the home. They borrowed money from their neighbors and bought a coffin with debt to pay for his dad's funeral.

He achieved his dream of graduating from university

He cried tremendously upon receiving the kindness and the GIBTK’s arm of help. GIBTK welcomed Duc to live at Hal's Home, a male student home, and pursue his dream of becoming an Engineer in May 2019. Thanks to GIBTK's donation of education, nurture, medical care, and love, he received a degree in Electronics and Telecommunications in September 2023 from Danang University of Technology. He is now working for Synapse company, IC design segment, physical design team, receiving a steady salary which allows him to live well.

Always having brothers by his side to develop

“I now have a priceless treasure from GIBTK that I may use to further my lofty goals of painting beautiful stories in my future. I'm not sure where I would be without the help of the organization. I might have ended up being a mason or bricklayer rather than an engineer. Thank you for making my dream come true," he said.
