TET Joys for a Single Mother – Quyen

Poor people in Vietnam often say that TET comes with countless worries. Ms. Quyen, born in 1968 in Que Son district, Quang Nam, is one of the people struggling with those worries about Tet. As a single mother, she farms rice and makes wine to sell to earn money to support her only child's education.

With a small income of only about 30 dollars a month, she and her son, who is in high school, always have to worry about their daily meals. Therefore, even though Tet is only 18 days away, she still hasn't been able to buy special foods for Tet or decorate anything in her house. The mother and the son's shabby little house has nothing of value, not even an old TV, and now it's even more gloomy while people out there are excitedly busy shopping for Tet.

“From the bottom of my heart, I am very happy to be here to attend the Tet Shop organized by Giving It Back To Kids this year. The organization’s work is very meaningful because it helps a single mother like me feel that even if I only have to pay a very small amount of money, I still can buy delicious candies and nice clothes for my son, who always suffers from the disadvantage of being born into a poor  family,” Quyen said.

Looking at the goods displayed on the counter, she was very excited. She wanted to buy her son a set of clothes because she couldn't remember the last time she bought new clothes for him for Tet. Ms. Quyen also wants to share the gifts she was lucky enough to receive today with her family members. “Joy and happiness will double if I share it, just like what Giving It Back To Kids has been doing with disadvantaged families here.”
