Hope Blooms in Cambodia

Lean Danet's Resilience

Hello, my name is Lean Danet. I was born into a very poor family with five members in a small home in Pai Lin, Cambodia. My parents are farmers, and I am the first child in my family. I left my family to live with my uncle when I was 14 years old because my family did not have the ability to support my continued education. It was my first time staying away from my parents, and it was tough during that time.

Lean Danet's first day stepping into the Homes of GIBTK

Every morning, I had to wake up at 4:30 to find salering trees to sell at the market – the only way I could earn money for my food and studies. However, I didn't earn much from this endeavor. After returning home, I had to ride a bicycle for five miles to school every day. Along the way, I never felt comfortable because the route was really quiet and surrounded by the forest. Being away from my family and facing the challenges of that time, I almost gave up on education.

Although going to school was very challenging, she has never given up

Everything changed when I got to GIBTK. I had known about GIBTK since 2015 when the pastor came to worship God in my village. I was glad to hear about that place, but I didn't know if I would get the opportunity from them.

Lean Danet was blessed to be nurtured at Vera and Marlene's Homes

Personally, I thank God for bringing me the opportunity to be in Marlene and Vera’s home. It gave me new hope, and I am grateful for this chance. In this home, I have received more than my dream of just being educated in school. I got healed from the past trauma during my time away from my family through the love and support from GIBTK. My life has been transformed by GIBTK.

Her family was wonderful on graduation day

In 2022, I graduated from the university in the field of accounting and finance successfully. The knowledge I gained in the home and school helped me secure a good job in Phnom Penh now. I am able to support my family and my younger brothers for their education.

The once shy girl has now graduated and secured a stable job

I am really thankful and grateful to GIBTK and all the donors for building this beautiful place, Vera and Marlene’s home. Thank you for your kind heart, support, and love for us. I thank God for everything I have today.
