The sudden crisis forced my sisters to be sent to orphanages in another province, leaving me alone with my ailing mother. As an eight-year-old, my assistance was limited to household chores. I longed to grow up quickly, earn money, and get my mother the treatment she desperately needed, but my wish remained unfulfilled.
