A Transformed Girl Brings Joy To People's Lives

My name is To Uyen, and I am 22 years old. I was born into an impoverished family in Danang city, and due to our dire financial situation, we did not have our own home. For nearly 10 years, my parents, younger sister, and I lived in a tiny rented boarding home.

?Both my parents work as bricklayers to make ends meet, but my father is over 60 years old, and he frequently misses work due to health issues. All of my family's expenses must be met by my mother's two capable hands.

Uyen was nurtured at GIBTK from the first day

When COVID-19 struck, we found ourselves in a dire situation. My mother had limited job opportunities, and our financial situation worsened. We worried about our daily meals and even shed tears, not knowing how we could afford my tuition for the next school year.

?Fate brought GIBTK into my life, and I recognize that not everyone is as fortunate to receive such kind assistance when they need it most. I honestly don't know what I would do if GIBTK didn't love and support me unconditionally. I was overjoyed to be welcomed to live at the Lighthouse, and as a result, I no longer experienced anxiety as I did when my dreams were on the verge of abandonment.

Accessing everything from GIBTK environment

GIBTK provided me with a supportive environment where I received financial aid for my studies and the opportunity to live in a secure place where I was cared for not only physically but also academically. I gained numerous skills from GIBTK that have greatly aided me in my current profession. Some of the additional skills I learned include life skills, leadership skills, computer workshops, English lessons, and the Glow Club. I am proud to call the Lighthouse my second home

I completed my major in social work and secured a position as a teacher in a special needs facility in Da Nang. My profession has given me a better understanding of how challenging it can be to work as a special educator with children who have special needs, such as autism, hyperactivity, delayed speech, intellectual handicaps, and more.

However, the more I worked with and engaged with these children, the more empathy I felt for them and their families. I truly enjoy this profession as it brings me happiness while also bringing happiness to others.

?Thank you for considering me as your child, your sibling, and your friend. And thank you for helping shape me into the person I am today.

"We highly appreciate you and thank you for transforming lives"
