Van Thi Hien

My name is Van Thi Hien. I was born in 1991 into a family with eight members: my parents, four sisters, a brother, and me. My parents had to work very hard in the fields to raise us. Then, an unexpected event caused my family to become impoverished. My mother suffered a stroke while I was in sixth grade, paralyzing half her body. My mother had to stay in the hospital for a long time for treatment. To support my father, my sisters and brothers eventually dropped out of school to go to work and earn money for the family. They went to work so that I could attend school. It was a difficult time for my family, but thanks to their steadfast love and sacrifice, we have overcome many difficulties together. So far, my happiest memory is living with my family.

But I know that life isn't always fair, especially for children. Many kids dream about basic things like eating well, dressing comfortably, going to school, and being loved by their parents. Children around the world share this same dream and deserve the opportunity be loved, cared for, and study. Therefore, I want to contribute my energy to help them achieve this. I chose to work at Giving it back to Kids.
Being a community classroom teacher at GIBTK is an opportunity for me to help disadvantaged children achieve their dreams. I was not only a teacher who assisted children with their studies, but also a sister with whom they frequently confided with and shared their difficulties in life.GIBTK is like my family, the place that makes me happy and allows me to achieve my dream.
