Pham Thi Ngoc

I am Pham Thi Ngoc. I was born in 1996 and grew up in a poor place located in Hiep Duc district, Quang Nam province. I was not as lucky as other people. My mother passed away when I was 7 months old, so my sister and I lived with our father and stepmother. Unfortunately, I lost my father because of his severe illness when I was in the 6th grade. But the tragedies kept happening as my sister also passed away after a few days of being in the hospital when I was in the 12th grade.
I had to follow my relatives to plow fields, plant trees and pick up vegetables to make a living and support my family. When in second grade, I was able to cook, tend the oxen and cut the grass. When I was in the third grade, I could climb the mountain to collect firewood and plant trees. Despite a load of misfortune and difficulties, I was lucky to have many people who loved and helped me during my bad times.
With the help and encouragement of my family, friends, teachers, neighbors and a lot of benefactors, I was given the strength to grow up. Furthermore, with a constant effort, I passed the university entrance exam and started facing new hardships. At that time, GIBTK welcomed me to Light House – a home for college girls like me. Since then, I was taken back to my childhood as the organization’s name. I had the opportunity to play, study and be loved as a member of a big family. For over two years living in the Light House, I have realized the great meaning of what this organization could do. I would like to return after graduating and work for GIBTK. More than anyone, I understand how miserable the poor are, how desperate the kids want to go to school and have a happy family. I have faith that with the help of GIBTK, I will be able to give all the unfortunate children my love and support and change their lives in a better way. This place fires me with the passion inside, that’s why I love it with all my heart.
